South Africa vs Australia 3rd T20 Match Preview

South Africa v Australia 3rd T20- Australia leveled the series at the high scoring ground Johannesburg where they clinched the last ball thriller to complete a chase of 205, first one for Australia in the T20 internationals.

Earlier batting first Faf Du Plessis helped his team to a brilliant total of 204 when at one time they looked short of the 200 mark as the wickets fell at the back end of the innings. But skippers’ last over brilliance meant they crossed the 200 mark and put up a strong total on the board. The pitch looked a belter to bat on but AB de Villiers couldn’t make the most of the conditions.

Dale Steyn returned in the team after being left out in the first match and made the impact as he scalped two important wickets, Steve Smith and Shane Watson, in one over to push the visitors on the back foot as they were reeling at 32-3 in the sixth over. Kagiso Rabada was again brilliant with figures of 4-0-25-2 in a match where over 400 runs were scored.

With Aussies looking out of the match in the powerplay it was two explosive batsmen, Warner and Maxwell, who brought them back into the game with a record partnership of 161. Both of them looked comfortable even though the required rate was above 12 when they arrived. Aussies stuttered once the two batsmen were out but James Faulkner and Mitchell Marsh ensured the last ball win.

However, a few concerns remain for Australia as too many changes have hindered them. Usman Khwaja, the best batsman for them in summer, has not been given enough opportunities. Steve Smith looks clueless in this format and tries too much too early. With this being the last international match before they begin their campaign for World T20, they need to finalise their first XI.

For South Africa the inclusion of Farhan Behardien is befuddling to say the least with his hitting abilities questionable lower down the order and especially if he is not used as a bowler.

South Africa vs Australia 3rd T20 Pitch Report

The South Africa v Australia 3rd t20 is to be played at Newlands, Cape Town where the pitch is expected to be very different from the last game at Johannesburg. There should be an even contest between bat and ball. In the last five T20 internationals played at this ground we had scores of 134-165-176-146-143. Of these team batting first won only on one occasion (176) while other four times teams chasing won.  Of the 13 matches played at this ground teams chasing won 10 times.

South Africa vs Australia 3rd T20 Prediction and Odds

After their record chase of 205 runs Australia has bridged the gap of the odds. South Africa is 1.84 to win the match after they failed to defend 204 runs. With the bias apparent against the team batting first, we will be backing the team chasing.
