CPL 2015 5th Match Preview

The T20 fever is back, the excitement, the final overs nervousness and the nail biting finishes are back with CPL 2015. It’s match 5 of the tournament scheduled today which will be played between Barbados Tridents vs Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados. Both the sides comprise of big names and match winners in the likes of Kieron Pollard, Jacques Kallis, Dwayne Bravo and more. Super contest awaits tonight.

Coming on the teams, Barbados Tridents have already registered two wins of the tournament with a flying start to CPL 2015. Both the games were at their home ground which they grabbed in their favour quite nicely. On the other hand, Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel has played just one game which was washed out due to rain. It will be a second match for them and they would be hoping to register a win against their name early in the tournament.

Barbados Tridents have a tremendous squad containing star batsmen like Dwayne Smith, Shoaib Malik, Kieron Pollard, Dilshan Munaweera and the bowlers in the likes of Ravi Rampaul, Rayad Emrit, Jason Holder and Robin Peterson who can outclass the opposition comfortably which they have shown in their previous two matches. One against Guyana Amazon Warriors where they posted a total of 158 runs and defended it quite easily at the end by bowling the opposition out for just 109 runs with 2 overs to spare.

While the other game they played, was against Jamaica Tallawahs, restricting them to chase the target of 161 runs and at the end of the match the scoreboard said Barbados Tridents won by 16 runs. In both the matches they dominated the opposition both with bat and with the ball and we expect it to happen once gain in today’s game too. It is certainly the side to beat in this tournament who doesn’t look like going down so easily.

Kieron Pollard was the star for them in the first match scoring 48 runs off 26 balls with 5 fours and 2 massive hits. He also contributed with ball and chipped away 2 wickets to take his team over the line and was also named Man of the Match for his brilliant performance.

Robin Peterson has been the bowler they are backing on in terms of wickets as he displayed supreme performance in previous two games with phenomenal numbers of 31 for 3 in his 4 in the first game and 26 for 3 in his full quota of 4 overs in the next.

The first game for Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel resulted in a wash out but their bowling was certainly exposed against the quality batsmen like Kevin Pieterson, Andre Fletcher, Johnson Charles and Henry Davids. The bowlers leaked away runs, each with an economy of over 6 runs. Samuel Badree looked nice and on target who finished his spell of 4 overs giving away 27 runs and taking an important wicket of KP. Kallis also contributed with the ball chipping away 2 wickets for the cost of 31 runs. Other than these two, no one looked in good rhythm and gave away free runs to the opposition batsmen. They will be keen to rectify the errors and put up a quality show this time around. The batting hasn’t been tested yet but today they might get a chance to take on the BT bowlers. Cloudy conditions today in Barbados won’t be the thing, they’ll be wishing for. Lets see how the two teams fight today in Barbados hoping to see a cracker of a contest.

Pitch Report for CPL 2015 match 5

Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, the stadium where today’s match is to be played. Already two matches of CPL 2015 has been played at this venue, both of them being won by the home side, Barbados Tridents.

Both the games of the tournament here witnessed a first innings total of 158 and 161 posted by Barbados Tridents after they opted to bat on both the occasions. Captains prefer to set a total at this ground.

However the stats say different story, 15 times the team batting first has won and on 19 occasions the side chasing has won. But these include all three formats of the game, test, ODIs and T20. It is even stevens as far as setting a target or chasing is concerned at this ground because the conditions don’t change much and would favour the batsmen. Bowlers also hold a chance if they bowl in good areas as there is spice in this pitch for them too.
