CPL 2015 11th Match Preview
Battle number 7 of the tournament would see Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots against each other. It will be played at the Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts. Both the teams would like to earn the two points and move further towards the top of the points table. Current standings for both sides aren’t very good as Warriors are right at the bottom while the Patriots, after managing one win from their 3 games are at number 4.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, despite being a good side hasn’t been able to put up the show, it’s fans and team management would have liked. They have managed to get over the line on just one occasion and that too by just 1 run against Barbados Tridents. They got thrashed by St Lucia Zouks on one occasion by 7 wickets and by Jamaica Tallawahs by 7 wickets on the other.
Their previous game was against JT where they posted a total of 160 runs after batting first on a good surface to bat on which was easily chased by the Jamaica boys in 19.1 overs, credit to brilliant batting display by their captain Chris Gayle and the Australian batsman Chris Lynn who made sure they cross the line within the limit.
Batting looked good for the Patriots as everyone chipped in to take the total to a respectable one. But after being 88 for 2 in 11 overs, they couldn’t able to maintain the tempo and go for the big score. They managed a RR of around 8 runs per over in their final 9 overs. Martin Guptill was slow and wasn’t able able to shift gears at the end. His innings of 53 off 48 balls included just 3 boundaries and 2 sixes. Marlon Samuels was terrific with the bat and played a captain’s knock of 50 runs off 31 balls helping the overall score to touch 160 mark. It was up to the bowlers then to restrict the opposition batsmen which they failed to do, resulting in a defeat. But, they would certainly like the pacers to stand up this time around which won’t be easy against the likes of Dilshan, Simmons, Brad Hodge and Dinesh Ramdin.
On the other hand, Guyana Amazon Warriors have lost both of their games, one against Barbados Tridents and St Lucia Zouks. The latter one went right down to the wire and kept everyone interested till the last ball. But, the result wasn’t in favour of the Warriors as they lost the match by 2 runs. They’d like to rectify the past mistakes and put up a match winning show against the Patriots.
Their bowling front looks quite decent with South African pacer Marchant de Lange, 29 year old West Indian domestic bowler Paul Wintz and the two quality spinners in the likes of Veerasammy Permaul and Sunil Narine. The pick of the bowlers from their previous match were Paul Wintz and Permaul who ended with the bowling figures of 3 overs 17 for 0 and 4 overs 24 for 2 respectively.
Coming on to their batting line up, they have a powerful and experienced opening pair with the likes of Sri Lankan opening batsman Tilakaratne Dilshan and the West Indian opener Lendl Simmons. Dilshan looked good for his 29 off 16 in the last game until he was bowled by West Indian quicky, Fidel Edwards. Brad Hodge is another key batsman in their unit on whom the side depends immensely. He was there till the end when the team lost by 2 runs and scored 45 important runs to get close to the finish line but wasn’t able to take his team to win.
Both the sides would be looking to outclass the other and move up on the points table.
