CPL 2015 12th Match Preview
Barbados Tridents and St Lucia Zouks will lock horns today in CPL 2015 in the match no. 12 which is scheduled to be played at Warner park, Basseterre, St Kitts. Tridents and the Zouks are the two top teams of the tournament with 8 and 5 points respectively occupying the top spots on the points table. This will be second time these two teams would be up against each other.
The previous meeting saw the Barbados Tridents on the winning ways defeating St Lucia Zouks by 15 runs. Shoaib Malik was named the Man of the Match for his brilliant knock of 51 runs off 34 balls. Though the experiment of sending Robin Peterson at no. 3 failed, but Malik batted beautifully by holding one end quite nicely when the wickets were tumbling at the other. Openers gave a good start but a slow one. Smith contributed 22 runs to the total while Dilshan Munaweera scored 26 off 23. None of the batsmen looked comfortable in the middle and Barbados continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Finally, the calm and experienced Shoaib Malik helped them to post a total of 148 runs in their 20 overs.
The bowlers did the magic for them and restricted the opposition from chasing down the target. Srilankan spinner, Jeevan Mendis rolled his wrist for 4 overs and chipped away 2 crucial wickets of Ross Taylor and Mayers. His economy of 3.75 runs per over proved useful at the end. Other bowlers too, were able to ball the dot balls and maintained the pressure on St Lucia batsmen which cost them the match. Its a good unit with a perfect combination of players required to win the match. The pitch at the Warner Park is spinner friendly and with the likes of Robin Peterson and right arm Leggie Jeevan Mendis, Tridents fancy their chances in today’s encounter too.
On the other side of the court is St Lucia Zouks which is a scintillating unit having players like Fletcher, Charles, KP, Ross Taylor, Henry Davids, Sammy, Nathan McCullum, Roach and Edwards. On papers, this team looks strenuous to defeat but the early loses and dot balls, certainly piled up the pressure level in the previous against the Tridents which cost them the game. Fletcher has been in sublime form in CPL 2015 so far which he showed in this match too by scoring 38 balls 52. In the way through, he blasted 2 fours and 4 colossal sixes which weren’t good enough to take his side over the line. Poor batting performance by a good batting side resulted in losing the two important points. The batsmen would like to correct the mistakes and love to rise today and come on the winning ways once again. They have won 2 games out of 5, lost 2 and one was washed out.
Bowlers performed quite well by restricting BT to 148. Pick of the bowler was ST Gabriel who wasn’t able to pick a wicket but bowled his quota of 4 overs for just 18 runs, which is outstanding. He bowled 15 dot balls out of 24 and was driven for boundaries on 2 occasions. St Lucia Zouks is a good side with a mix of power, experience and pace. They would like to take revenge of the recent defeat but it won’t be easy against the opposition like Barbados Tridents. One thing is for sure, it will be a thrilling clash between the two best sides of the competition.
