The hosts England have kicked off their ICC Champions Trophy 2017 campaign with an emphatic eight-wicket victory against Bangladesh, thus sending a strong message for other top teams, that they here to win.
Chasing 306, never did they look in a state of bother except for losing the wicket of Jason Roy early. Joe Root with an unbeaten 133 off 129 balls led the run chase with Alex Hales and Eoin Morgan scoring 95 off 86 and 75 off 61, respectively, as England chased down the target of 306 in just 47.2 overs. This is the first successful chase of 300 plus in the history of the tournament. We might see quite a few of them in during the course of the tournament because of the change in dynamics of ODI cricket.
Earlier in the first innings, Tamim Iqbal with a brilliant 128 off 142, anchored the Bangladesh innings and put them in a very good position of 259/2 at the end of 44th over, with the help of Mushfiqur Rahim who scored 79 off just 72 deliveries. But Plunkett pulled things back for England by picking up both the set batsmen in consecutive deliveries. Bangladesh only managed 46 off the last six overs though they had eight wickets in hand. Liam Plunkett finished with excellent figures of 10-0-59-4 to help England restrict the visitors.
