Bangladesh senior batsman Tamim Iqbal is excited to see his all-time hero and ace footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, as Real Madrid from Spain and Juventus from Italy would be wrestling in the 2017 UEFA Champions League grand finale, at the national football stadium of Wales in Cardiff, on Saturday night.
Tamim, who is delighted to pay a visit to the stadium, revealed he didn’t want to miss such a massive opportunity to see the top-notch footballer in action.
“Finally, I have got this opportunity. I don’t want to lose out on this great chance to see him in action,” Tamim was quoted as saying by Dhaka Tribune.
Earlier, the reports revealed Tamim was trying to convince his head coach Chandika Hathurusingha for a day’s leave which he has been granted.
“I asked for a one-day break from the [Chandika Hathurusingha] coach. He didn’t say no,” Tamim remarked.
Interestingly, the latest reports suggested that the swashbuckling opener Tamim has paid the hefty amount of €2,700 (Tk 2.50 lakh), to witness his star in flesh, in Europe’s premier league in football.
“I’ve been longing to see [Cristiano] Ronaldo in flesh for a long time now,” Tamim asserted.
The 28-year-old left-handed batsman Tamim’s dream could get fulfilled, as he would travel from London to Cardiff – to witness athlete Ronaldo sprinting over the turf for his club Real Madrid.
It’s pertinent to note, Tamim is a part of Bangladesh’s 15-member squad which is currently participating in the eight edition of the ICC Champions Trophy. The reports added Tamim would be watching the much-awaited clash near the dugout which further gives a perfect view for the spectators in the jam-packed stadium.
In tournament opener on June 1st, Tamim smashed a remarkable hundred against hosts England at The Oval. Tamim’s innings of 128 off 142 deliveries has helped his side to post 305 on the board, his triple-figure mark went in vain, as England won the match convincingly by eight wickets following gritty hundred from Joe Root, as Alex Hales and skipper Eoin Morgan knitted the fifties each.
In their second game of Group A fixture, Bangladesh is scheduled to face Australia on Monday (June 5) at Kennington Oval.
