India vs South Africa First Test Preview

India faced a humiliating defeat in the T20 and ODI series, a rarity for the Indian side in the recent time in the home conditions. However, the home side was not expected to roll over the South African side but it was startling to see that the visitors were at the top for most of the games.

The start of the 4 match Test series gives India an opportunity to gain the upper hand against the number one ranked visitors. The change of personnel at the top for India might bring a puff of fresh air for them. Kohli brings an exciting prospect as he is now settling into his role with a series triumph against Sri Lanka.

South Africa is already worried about the pitch at Mohali as Faf Du Plessis said it looked like the ball would turn from Day 1 and this is a ground which is believed to assist fast bowlers for the first two days. However, India should be wary about the preparation of such pitches which backfired when England toured India.

India’s batting looks settled but there will be a dilemma whether Cheteshwar Pujara fits into the scheme of things in Kohli’s Test team. Rohit Sharma seems to be his first choice despite Pujara scoring a century against Lanka. Replacing him with Shikhar Dhawan might be an option as he has looked out of sorts in the recent times. But apart from that the batting line up looks good to go. It will be interesting to see the combination with which India goes. Now that Ravindra Jadeja is in the side he is expected to be in the XI at the expense of Stuart Binny.

South Africa has some new faces in the batting line up but AB De Villiers, Faf Du Plessis and Hashim Amla will be the batting mainstay for the visitors. Bowling looks good for the visitors and they will rely on their bowling to make a difference.
