India vs Srilanka 2015 2nd Test
India vs Srilanka Test Match 2 Preview
Thursday, August 20th will mark an important day in the history of cricket as two of the modern day greats, Kumar Sangakkara and Michael Clarke, will bid adieu to the international cricket. Talking about the former, he has been one of the great batsman modern cricket has seen, adding to that the additional Wicket keeper role he managed for a considerable time, he no less than a cricketing great.
Amongst the Test batsmen who have played a minimum of hundred Tests, Sangakkara has the highest average (57.71) and is expected to finish as the batsman with the highest average. While in the all time average he is second in the list.
Talking about the Test match on our hands after being at the top for three days in the Test match, India lost the whole Test match on the fourth day on a pitch which seemed devoid of any extraordinary spin. As Kohli admitted there were not any horrors in the pitch as the Indian batsmen succumbed to the pressure.
Chasing a target of 176, India needed one good partnership to ensure a win but that did not happen for the visitors as they were out done by some excellent bowling on the fourth day by Rangana Herath as he managed to take seven Indian wickets.
India is already without their run scoring opener Shikhar Dhawan as he is out of the series due to an injury. With Stuart Binny included in the side India is half backtracking on the five-bowler plan as Binny is neither a full time bowler nor is he an established test batsman. The inclusion of Binny in the Test squad indicates the jitters in the Indian camp as they look to save the series starting Monday.
In the spin department Mishra and Ashwin looked impressive but third spinner, Harbhajan Singh has looked out of form and failed to impress where all the other spinners were able to price out some wickets.
Sri Lanka on the other hand were saved by the match winning knock by Dinesh Chandimal in the 3rd innings as he scored 169 runs to ensure a fighting total for his team. Though they won the match Lankan camp will be far from satisfied with their batting and they all the more reason to worry as after this Test they will be without the world’s best number three.
Both the teams were far from their best and it will be imperative for both of them to perform better in the second test.
