The IPL action shifts to MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai where the two time champions, Chennai Super Kings takes on the revamped Delhi DareDevils in the second encounter of IPL 2015. Leaving behind all the controversies of involvement of their team owner, Gurunath Meiyappan in betting, Chennai Super Kings will be keen on getting a good start in this season of Indian Premier League. A new and revamped DD is waiting for the CSK challenge in Chennai with a completely new team coached by Gary Kirsten.
Starting with CSK who have a brilliant record in IPL with a win percentage of about 61, under the leadership of cool captain, MS Dhoni, would like to start with a win. Team combination has been excellent for them throughout the IPL seasons with openers, Murli Vijay and Micheal Hussey who have given them a perfect launch pad for the middle order and lower middle order to capitalize on later, many a times. Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith have been superb last year too as openers providing team with the desired start. McCullum holds the key for them in this season especially with the form he has been in recently concluded Cricket World Cup 2015 but not sure about the latter one who hasn’t been able to impress most of us in Australia. He has been one of the key players in CSK batting line up but his position in the side would certainly depends on the initial matches of the current tournament else he could make way for the experience Micheal Hussey in the side.

Following is the fearless middle order comprising of some outstanding international players with the likes of Suresh Raina, Faf du Plessis, MS Dhoni, Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja. Each having the capability to win matches single handily on their day, makes them the toughest opposition to beat in IPL 2015. Bowling department also includes class spinners like R Ashwin, Samuel Badree, Jadeja and Rahul Sharma. Mohit Sharma, who has impressed many with his bowling performance in recent world cup, will be the key pacer for CSK in IPL 2015. Kyle Abbott from South Africa, Matt Henry from New Zealand, Ashish Nehra and Irfan Pathan adds to that bowling unit too. Overall the side looks very good in all three departments of the game and certainly have the capability to be crowned as the champions of IPL 2015.
On the other hand, Delhi DareDevils have gone through a complete makeover with the release of 13 players including KP, Dinesh Karthik, Ross Taylor and Murli Vijay. They haven’t had good couple of years and managed to secure the last spot on the points table. But, with a new captain in form of JP Duminy and star players like Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan and Angelo Mathews, they look to come on top this time around. All eyes would be on the most expensive buy of this year’s IPL, Yuvraj Singh (auctioned for 16 crore) to help DD cross the line and win the title for the first time.
Quinton de Kock and Mayank Agarwal/Saurabh Tiwary/CM Gautam get the opening slots and a responsibility to provide a solid start. Middle order comprises of the captain, JP Duminy along with Angelo Mathews, Yuvraj Singh, Kedar Jadhav and Manoj Tiwary. Bowling unit looks formidable for DD this time with the presence of some international players like Mohammed Shami, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Amit Mishra, Zaheer Khan and Imran Tahir. Though Shami and Zaheer are doubtful for their opening game of the season due to injuries but soon you can expect them to be a part of playing X1.
CSK Probable X1: Brendon McCullum, Dwayne Smith, Suresh Raina, Faf du Plessis, Dwayne Bravo, MS Dhoni, Mithun Manhas, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Ashish Nehra, Mohit Sharma
DD Probable X1: Quinton de Kock, Saurabh Tiwary, Shreyas Iyer, Yuvraj Singh, JP Duminy, Kedar Jadhav, Manoj Tiwary, Amit Mishra, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Domnic Joseph, Imran Tahir
As we saw in the first game of IPL 2015 played between KKR and MI, even the slow kolkata deck had some carry so we are not expecting a rank turner first up. It will be a good pitch to bat on and seamers are expected to play a major role.
Last five batting first totals at this ground in IPL 2013: 168, 186, 200, 159, 185
All of them being won by Chennai Super Kings. Out of the above five games Chennai batted first, four times and just once chased down the score of 159 set by Sunrisers Hyderabad, beating them by 5 wickets.
CSK is 1.44 to win the match and it is quite obvious looking at their team. With Delhi DareDevil’s squad an unknown entity we would not venture on them and stick to the favourites, CSK, to win the match.
