Top Teams Fight to End Each Other’s Winning Run
Match No 15: CSK v RR
Date and Venue: 19th April 2015, Sardar Patel Stadium, Ahmedabad
Head to Head: Played 15 CSK 10 RR 5
Game 15 of IPL season 8 today, features the clash between the two top teams of the tournament, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings. Both the teams are in tremendous touch as witnessed in their last matches. RR winning four out of four while CSK won three out of their three matches. You can expect a cracker of a contest today in Ahmedabad at Sardar Patel Stadium.
Chennai Super Kings equipped with a number of match winners is a side to beat in the tournament. With Captain cool in form of MS Dhoni, they look to progress far in this season too. In their last encounter against Mumbai Indians, they destroyed their bowling attack chasing down a huge target of 184 with 3.2 overs remaining showed their strength and class. The team’s openers with the likes of Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith have provided a healthy and solid start upfront is one of the reasons of their success in this edition of Indian Premier League.
Though the team heavily depends on the above two for a good start, they have a set of internation players comprising the all important middle order with the likes of Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni. The lower middle order also has some of the best finishers the game has witnessed with D Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja who can score at a brisk pace in the latter half of the innings.
Bowling looks good enough to wrap up the opposition with Ashish Nehra leading the way in style. He bowled an exceptional spell in his last outing against MI, chipping away 3 wickets for just 23 runs in his 4 overs. Apart from him no other bowler has impressed so far in this IPL, which might be a bit of concern for the captain. The front line spinner, R Ahswin went for a beating in his last match and gave away 13 runs in his first over and that was it from him.
On the other hand Rajasthan Royals have shown a royal winning run so far. Four out of four says it all for them, though their last outing against Sunrisers Hyderabad wasn’t up to the mark and a score of 127 looked hard to chase down. The last ball boundary by Faulkner eventually helped them to cross the line though. Apart from this match they saw comfortable wins against Kings x1 Punjab, Mumbai Indians defeating them by 26 runs and 7 wickets respectively.
CSK won’t be a walk in the park and they have to put up their best show in order to beat the fearless men in yellow. Steve Smith would be the key player in addition to young Indian batsmen in the likes of Deepak Hooda who has displayed his power in previous matches and Sanju Samson who still need to fire in IPL 8. Ajinkya Rahane would also be crucial man upfront for them to provide a solid start with Sanju Samson.
Bowling is the key if they desire to come on top in today’s clash. RR has a good bowling unit with the likes of Tim Southee, Chris Morris, James Faulkner, Dhawal Kulkarni and 43 old Praveen Tambe. All of the above are in superb touch and form. Praveen Tambe has dominated the middle overs by not only containing but chipping away wickets at crucial periods.
A look at his previous performaces in this season:
Vs Kings X1 Punjab: 15/0 in 3 overs
Vs Delhi DareDevils: 18/1 in 3 overs
Vs Mumbai Indians: 25/1 in 3 overs
Vs Sunrisers Hyderabad: 21/2 in 4 overs
