IPL 8 Match 27 Preview
IPL Prediction for KX1P vs SRH Match
KXIP and SRH lock horns
Match No 27: KXIP v SRH
Date and Venue: 27th April 2015, Mohali
Head to Head: Played 4 KXIP 3 SRH 1
Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad have the same number of wins, two, from the same number of matches they have played, six. But Kings XI Punjab is lingering at the bottom of the table which is ironical as at this point of time in the previous edition they were dominating with their aggressive play. Sunrisers Hyderabad has shown signs of improvement but their perennial weakness comes to haunt them every time they step onto the field.
KXIP will be welcoming their home ground, Mohali, after a sojourn at Pune where they lost all three games they played against RR, DD and KKR. However, they need a little more than their home ground luck to bring their campaign back on track. Having lost four of the six games they have played they are lingering at the bottom of the table.
Batting, which was the main reason for ending at the top of the table last season, has not fired with same intensity as they did last year. Their batting mainstay last year, Glenn Maxwell, has looked horribly out of form and as a result was dropped from the last game. The other three foreign batsmen, George Bailey, David Miller and Shaun Marsh, have done reasonably well but in patches. It has not been enough to pull wins for the team.
Biggest worry for Kings is that their Indian openers, Virendra Sehwag and Murali Vijay, have not given them the big starts. The opening partnership till now between these two has been 0-60-33-0-3-4. They need their star middle order to have some cushion of runs at top of the order. The only time they got to 50+ partnership their team won comfortably.
Bowling has been lethargic to say the least. Apart from Sandeep Sharma none of the bowlers has looked to trouble the batsmen. Mitchell Johnson lack of form is worrisome for them as he is the one on whom bowling is dependent. In the six matches he has managed to pick up six wickets with an economy rate of 8.93. in fact apart from Sandeep Sharma, who has an economy of 5.95, all the other bowlers has an economy of above 8 an over. They need to plug the loopholes before they become too broad to contain.
Watching Sunrisers Hyderabad as a viewer has been annoying. Being a spectator anyone can point out what their problem has been since their inception. Last year they had top heavy batting and they decided to go for a course correction at the auction tables. But all they managed to do was to aggravate their problem if anything else.
Chasing a score of 159 against Mumbai Indians on a Wankhede Pitch they started off breezily scoring over nine runs an over in the powerplay. But as is their problem as soon as both their openers went back they stuttered and in the end could not even get close to the total. At the Shikhar Dhawan got out they needed 107 runs off 84 balls with eight wickets in hand but they fell short by 20 runs, thus managing 87 off 84 balls which is unacceptable.
They went in for an extra foreign bowler dropping all rounder Moises Henriques for Trent Boult to come into the side. This meant Hanuman Vihari got his first game as he came in an number six to bat.
But their bowling has been impressive to watch as it won them the game against Kolkata Knight Riders bowling the last four overs for 27 runs when KKR seemed to be cruising towards the victory. But given the rules of the tournament they cannot afford to drop a foreign batsman to accommodate another bowler in their arsenal which looks already strong not when they do not have an Indian batsman who is performing for them. They need to get their team combinations right for the next game.
