IPL 8 Match 43 Preview
IPL Prediction for MI vs CSK Match
Mumbai takes on CSK
Match No 43: CSK v MI
Date and Venue: 08th May 2015, Chennai
Head to Head: Played 21 CSK 11 MI 10
Mumbai has found its groove now and like previous edition is looking good to qualify in the top four. Chennai too is looking good for that playoffs spot after stuttering in two matches. The last time these two teams met at Wankhede stadium Mumbai it was an easy win for CSK even after Mumbai posted a competitive 183 runs. But back then the bowling of the MI was docile even with Malinga in it.
Now the Mumbai team is different with the new found form for their top bowler Lasith Malinga as he has got his death bowling skills sharpened. Also with the inclusion of Mitchell McCleneghan has supported Malinga with the death bowling. Indian off spinner, Harbhajan Singh is bowling like he bowled in the 2001-2006 as he is bowling slowly and extracting the bounce which is dangerous for any team if does that. These three have managed to strangle the batsmen.
Batting is a bit of concern for them though they won the last game chasing 153 after being 4 down for 40. They have a dearth of confidence in their middle order thus the move to protect Rohit Sharma as we saw in the previous game. Hardik Pandya was sent ahead of Rohit which is not expected of them. Ambati Raydu being in good form is being wasted at number six or seven.
The opening partnership has been god for them since Lendl Simmons has been drafted into the side. His national team teammate, Kieron Pollard, has played a few innings of substance but has struggled against quality bowling line up.
Chennai Super Kings have not lost a single game at their fortress, Chennai, this season and the pitch has transformed from a belter to a spinning one. This indicates they have the armoury for every kind of pitch.
However, the results they have produced this time, top of the table with seven wins in ten matches, is not apparent to the batting failures they have had this season. Unusually for them either the middle order or the top order has failed and in three matches both of them have failed miserably. Matter of concern of them is the failure of middle order to consolidate the position openers have put them in. MS Dhoni has not been himself and struggled on most occasions while batting. Faf Du Plessis has looked in good form but failed to get any big innings.
The pace bowling is starting to wear out it seems as they have gone for plenty in the last two matches. Ashish Nehra who is the highest wicket taker for CSK has struggled and leaked runs. Mohit Sharma gave away 58runs in four overs against SRH.
Spinners were the face savers for CSK in a few games now. Despite Ashwin being out with an injury, Jadeja and Negi have bowled well. It will be interesting to see whom does Dhoni prefer once Ashwin is available for selection.
