Rajasthan Royals has surprised one and all by winning five out of five games they have played and is placed firmly on the top of the charts. They look good to qualify for the playoffs and may well be the first team to do it.

The kind of wins they have managed till now in the tournament is encouraging for the management. The ease with which they have tromped the opposition has been the trademark of this team. Even the most consistent team of the IPL, Chennai Super Kings, found it difficult against the wittiness of Rajasthan Royals.

Facile win against CSK signalled the zone Rajasthan Royals is in as they completed an easy win by eight wickets. They were brilliant in every department. Bowling restricted the star CSK batting line up to a score of 156 runs with only four wickets down. MS Dhoni was 31 off 37 balls not out at the end of the innings.

The bowlers at their disposal performs the roles they needed to carry out. Opening the bowling with Ankit Sharma caught the opposition off guard as they priced out 3 overs out of him. They have as many as seven genuine bowling options.

Also with the return of Shane Watson in their playing XI means they can afford to drop one bowler, in this case it was Tim Southee, as he can both bat and bowl. His return also benefitted the team at the top as Sanju Samson was unable to provide good starts. In his return game Watson hammered 73 off 47 balls. With their last year’s performers, Sanju Samson and Stuart Binny, yet to fire things are looking rosy for the Royals.

The Australian pedigree has certainly added flavor to this Rajasthan line up with Steve Smith and James Faulkner playing match winning hands already. Faulkner, who has performed at the international stage in the past one year, has not disappointed in the IPL.

Kings XI Punjab on the other hand has not been the same as they were the last year. In the four matches played, they managed to win just one game. The Maxwell and Miller magic, which propelled Kings XI last time, has disappeared. They have not managed to play the kind of innings they are known for.

The panic in the Punjab camp was palpable in the last game as they dropped David Miller to bring in Thisara Perera with Shaun Marsh already in the dug-out warming the bench. With Perera at number six their batting was not strong enough. They managed a below par 155 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders which they lost by four wickets. However, their bowlers managed to bring their team back into the game as they took five wickets for a score of 60 but it was a special innings by Andre Russell to which they lost.

Contrastingly, compared to last year the bowling has impressed one and all with Sandeep Sharma leading the attack with his pace and swing up front. Anureet Singh has complemented him well and has given away nothing.

They need to sort out their batting and with the bowling attack they have they can have an impact in the tournament.
