Match No 9: RR vs MI
Date and Venue: 14th April 2015 Motera Stadium, Ahmedabad
Head to Head: Played 15 MI 8 RR 6 NR 1
It is time for Game 9 of the Indian Premier League and time to welcome Motera stadium Ahmedabad venue, the sojourn home for Rajasthan Royals since the controversy surrounding SMS stadium in Jaipur.
The last time these two teams met last season it was an elated Mumbai Indians who chased an improbable 190 off 14.3 overs to qualify for the play offs of 2014 season. But it was heart break for the Rajasthan Royals as they played some remarkable cricket last season but it took an incredible effort by Mumbai Indians to stop Rajasthan Royals from qualifying in the play offs.
But all is said and done and it is the commencement of a new season where Rajasthan Royals has played exceptionally winning two out of two games they have played and that too without services of their regular captain Shane Watson. Before the start of the tournament they were the least favourite to win in the betting market at 18/1. But as has happened before the markets have been dumbed-down.

Those who have watched this team closely since the inception would not be surprised by their performance. Every season they have brought some great Indian talent to the show whether it is Asnodkar, Praveen Tambe, Ashok Menaria, Stuart Binny, Sanju Samson and now Deepak Hooda.
Before the start of the tournament it was apprehended that RR might be short on their batting and even more so when Shane Watson was ruled out before the start of the first game. But it was again the local Indian talent who came to the fore playing an indispensible role in their team.
In their last game against Delhi Daredevils they won the game when they looked down and out but Deepak Hooda had other plans as he constructed his innings beautifully hitting 54 off 25 balls and Tim Southee completed the win by hitting a four off the last ball.
Mumbai Indians on the other hand started this edition no different than their last one as they lost two out of their two games against Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab. Despite having players like Aaron Finch, Rohit Sharma,Corey Anderson, Kieron Pollard, Lasith Mailnga and Harbhajan Singh in their ranks. But they are not yet clicking as a team and might be looking for some changes in their game against Rajasthan Royals.
The batsmen fell like nine pins against the swing of the Kings XI Punjab and did not have the skill to stave off that period of play. As Harbhajan Singh displayed later had their batsmen showed some grittiness to stay on the crease the result could have been different.
Rajasthan Royals may field an unchanged XI as Shane Watson is not fit yet to take the field and do not have any reasons to change their remaining XI.
Rajasthan Royals (probable XI): 1 Ajinkya Rahane 2 Sanju Samson (wk), 3 Steven Smith (capt), 4 Karun Nair, 5 Stuart Binny, 6 Deepak Hooda, 7 James Faulkner, 8 Chris Morris, 9 Tim Southee, 10 Dhawal Kulkarni, 11 Pravin Tambe
A lacklustre performance till now means there might be some changes in the playing XI of Mumbai Indians with last season’s performer Lendl Simmons expected to replace Aaron Finch at the top and Parthiv Patel expected to be brought in place of Aditya Tare.
Mumbai Indians (probable XI): 1 Parthiv Patel(wk), 2 Lendl Simmons, 3 Rohit Sharma (capt), 4 Ambati Rayudu, 5 Corey Anderson, 6 Kieron Pollard, 7 Jagadeesha Suchith, 8 Harbhajan Singh, 9 R Vinay Kumar, 10 Lasith Malinga, 11 Pawan Suyal
