Australia won by 32 runs in an affair which was looking closer than it actually ended up to be. South Africa won the toss and chose to field first on a wicket which has extra bounce which was expected on the WACA pitch at Perth. The bowlers started well and got some swing and pace going for them in the initial overs but as Warner opened up the runs started to spill as Australia ended up with 60 runs in the mandatory powerplay. Australia hit a bump in the middle of the innings and they ended up at 144-5 after being 94-0. Towards the end of the innings Bailey(70 off 75), Wade(35 off 40), Maxwell(29 off 19) and Johnson(13 off 8) chipped in to get Australia to a good score of 300.

South African bowling loosened the strings in the slog overs as they gave away 104 runs in the last ten with Dale Steyn going for 35 runs in 3 overs he bowled in the last ten. Vernon Philander was a star for the Proteas in bowling with figures of 45 for 4 in the 10 overs he bowled.

The Australians started off well while bowling and the score in the 16th over was 76-4 with Quinton De Kock, Hashim Amla, Behardein and Faf Du Plessis back to the pavilion. But then South Africa came back with a really strong partnership of 126 runs between David Miller and AB Devilliers and at one stage it looked like they were going to sail home comfortably as they needed 98 runs off 84 balls. They lost the game in the batting powerplay in which they managed to garner 17 runs with the loss of 4 wickets. Miller, 65 off 65, and AB Devilliers, 80 off 76, played well for their runs. For Australia all the bowlers bowled really well but the stand out were Mitchell Johnson, 10-1-38-2, and Coulter Nile, 10-0-48-4.

South Africa need to work at their batting depth and also need to look at different options in batting in lieu of Farhan Behardien as he has not looked comfortable at the international arena and should get a look in at Rossouw who scored a plucky 78 runs. For Australia Smith will get a look in after Clarke was injured during the game.
